Fancy helping out with BLC activities and events. We would love if you could spare some time helping. There are a variety of roles and interests within the BLC ranging from committee, area reps, kids groups and BLC events, so put your attributes to good use and meet new people at the same time!!
Please don’t hesitate to contact our Chair if you would like to chat about anything you could help out with or email chair@blc.lu.
Committee Roles for 2024-2025 – for a full job description on our committee roles click here:
EDITOR: As the current Editor will wave goodbye to her role at the next AGM, it is time to start thinking of her replacement.
Putting together this booklet each month for all of our members is a lovely pastime that does take a certain amount of time and skill but gives back much more in joy and fulfilment. It is a creative job that allows for a lot of initiative and your own expression – in text and photo editing, writing and design. Coming up with new content ideas and changes that make it better and more enjoyable for our readers, has always brought me a lot of satisfaction.
If you see yourself in the description above, please contact editor@blc.lu or committee@blc.lu. We’d be happy to chat and provide additional information.
WEBMASTER: I initially joined the committee in 2012 as membership secretary and approximately 2 years later I started working on the website converting it from its original format to a newer version and changing it again, just recently, to the current website you now see. When I was upgrading the website, I wanted to incorporate the following: an online directory, articles, calendar, digital newsletters and much more. However, there was a major problem, I had never built or designed a website before, so everything that I created was a learning experience to which I am eternally grateful for.
My duties include adding members to the various digital lists and giving access to the website, creating and sending digital emails to our members, including the monthly newsletter, renewal reminders and any other notifications from the committee as well as updates on our upcoming events.
Now it is 2025 I have decided to step down as webmaster. Help, guidance and assistance will be given to ensure fulfilment of role. For more questions, please email webmaster@blc.lu.
TREASURER: The role consists of keeping all the Committee members’ spending in check and the club’s finances healthy. The volunteer taking over will be provided with guidance, however, the role requires book-keeping skills and knowledge of Quickbooks.
KIDS: If you enjoy little people, singing nursery rhymes and mingling with other exhausted parents over coffee and cake, as well as organising children’s events , please contact committee@blc.lu.
PUBLIC RELATIONS and ADVERTISING roles are also opening up shortly.
We are also on the lookout for a new accountant to do our audited accounts. Perhaps there is a member or a member’s partner who could provide this service? Our Treasurer Janet would gladly hear from you at treasurer@blc.lu.
Non Committee Roles
Area Reps: This is an important role within the BLC as, having been initially contacted by our newcomers co-ordinator, area reps are often the first point of contact for somebody who’s recently arrived in Luxembourg (and I’m sure we all remember those early days which can be rather bewildering) who’s able to give information local to their area and invite them to take their first step in socialising with other members.
Area rep roles are non-committee and largely self-sufficient and, aside from being a friendly face to a newbie to Luxembourg, it’s an open opportunity to meet people within your area and beyond and, frankly, widen your social networking as much as you like! For more details click here or email chair@blc.lu
Hosting BLC Kids: We rely on the support of our members in order to continue many of our regular activities for younger children. Many of these are kindly hosted by members in their homes. Please do consider giving hosting a go – we are always on the look out for new hosts. The times and dates of our meet-ups are flexible, so you can do it whenever it suits your schedule. It’s a great way to socialise; a chance for mums to get a bit of grown-up conversation, and for the kids to have a good play.
If you are interested or would like to know more, then please do not hesitate to get in touch with either George (BLC Parent and Children’s Coordinators) on kids@blc.lu.
PROOFREADER: We are currently looking for an additional person to proofread the newsletter before it goes to print on a monthly basis. This is a non-committee role, can be done via email, and only requires a couple of hours each month, however it is also an extremely important job to ensure the ongoing quality of the newsletter.
You should have good attention to detail and an excellent grasp of written English. For further details, please contact editor@blc.lu.
STORAGE SPACE NEEDED! We are looking for a storage space, for example a dry corner of a basement, where we could store the Kids events boxes that are only needed on an occasional basis, when a large event happens.
There are about 6 large Ikea boxes and a gazebo. We will bring the boxes, stack them and collect them when needed, we just need somewhere to put them.
If you can help, please contact either the chair@blc.lu or treasurer@blc.lu.
PEW Events: We are looking for a volunteer to organise the Professional and Entrepreneurial Women Event, which happens every month and a half. It requires a person with good communication skills, preferably with a large network.
