Newcomers’ Event – evening

Let’s have a relaxing chat one evening

If you’re new to Luxembourg and/or the BLC, why not join us for a social event? You can meet new and old members alike and find out more about what the BLC has to offer!

Please register by Tuesday 6 April to get your Zoom invite at newcomers@blc.lu

Pipsqueaks – Morning

Pipsqueaks is a group for parents to get together with their younger-aged children for a sing-along session at a member’s home, or sometimes we organise meet-ups somewhere outside for some fresh air and a run-around. Newcomers always welcome.

It’s a very relaxed morning where the mums get to chat and drink coffee… we also sing a few nursery rhymes so that we can pretend we’ve really come for the kids rather than to socialise and get a caffeine hit! This is a really fun group that we are keen to keep going.

We’ve also created a new group on Tuesday afternoons called Coffee, Cake and Play so that our ‘graduates’ can still meet up. All ages are welcome and many older and younger siblings will be coming too. If the children want to we will also sing some nursery rhymes.

Please plan to arrive in time for a 9:45 a.m. start so parents with school-aged children are able to collect them from school.

Thank you very much!

To book you can either email events@blc.lu or complete the Booking Form

The BLC cordially invites you to share a magical evening with us… at the races!

When: Saturday 10th November; event starts at 7.30pm with the first race starting at 8pm sharp
Where: Top Squash Fitness and Leisure – Sandweiler
Who: BLC members as well as partners and friends

Not sure what that means? It’s an evening where you bet (and win!) on horse races. Of course, the races will not be live, but shown pre-recorded on TV screens around the venue.

How does it work? You can bet on the races for EUR 1 per ticket. Half of the proceeds of each race will go to charity and the other half distributed to the holders of the winning tickets. First placed horses only to win. The odds will depend on the betting on the actual evening and will be announced before each race.

You can also sponsor a horse in one of the races for EUR 5. Choose a name and your horse

will be in the race programme and you can support it on the night. Winning owners will receive a prize! For the final race there will be an auction of the horses on the night!

What about food and drink? The generous package, created in collaboration with Top Squash, of €30 per person includes:

– taking part in the evening
– all drinks (softs, beer, wine) until the last race is finished.
– a large delicious spread for dinner in “walking cocktail” style (ribs, chicken wings, sandwiches, chicken dips, vegetables and chips with homemade dip)

What to wear? What you like! Race attire is optional and there will be a prize for the best dressed lady and best dressed gentleman if you want to dress for the races – but you don’t have to!

BOOK BY TRANSFERRING €30/PERSON INTO THE BLC SPECIAL EVENTS BANK ACCOUNT
(LU08 0019 2955 6611 7000) STATING “Your name + guest names – race night” IN THE REFERENCE

If you would like to sponsor a horse you may pay the EUR 5 per horse at the same time.

Please note that public parking is widely available at Top Squash (shared with other venues so cannot be guaranteed for all).

Any questions? Email events@blc.lu or treasurer@blc.lu

Macmillan’s World’s Biggest Coffee Morning 2018

This year I look forward to welcoming you on Thursday, September 27th between 10 am and 3 pm at my house.

Please come in your dozens and bring husbands, partners, visitors, well-behaved kids and well-behaved dogs and drink lots of coffee (yes – and tea), eat lots of calories and put lots of coins in boxes. It’s a great chance also to catch up with old friends and make some new ones. There is space on the driveway for four cars if parked cleverly and a large car park behind the garden by the church.

All offers to serve coffee, wash cups and generally join in the melee in and around the kitchen will be most welcome.

So do come and help to make it one of our most successful events.

Let’s make it Luxembourg’s biggest and best yet – do come!

Cynthia Albrecht-Lelliott

  1. Financial
1.1 The Club’s financial year will run from 1 June each year to the following 31 May.

1.2 The annual subscription will be reduced to two-thirds for members who join the Club for the first time in the second half of the financial year. No such reduction will apply to previous members who re-join at any time in the financial year following a year in which they have been a member.

1.6 If the Club makes an operating surplus in any financial year the Committee may donate all or part of this surplus to charitable purposes in the next financial year. In addition, Members and/or the Committee may donate to charity such additional sums as are raised from events organised specifically for this purpose (e.g. tombolas, the car boot sale).

1.7 All Committee and other functions exercised within the remit of the Club are voluntary and will not be remunerated.

  1. Membership
2.1 A Membership Directory listing members’ names and contact details will be issued annually to all members who agree to have their details published.

2.2 If the Committee decides that a member should be excluded from the Club, the member concerned will not be eligible to attend any meetings of the Club from the moment that the Committee’s intention is made known to her in writing until the final decision to exclude or re-admit her is taken by a General Meeting.

2.3 Any member who has been excluded from the Club may apply to re-join in the following year. Any such application must be explicitly accepted or rejected by the Committee.

3.3 Partners of BLC members may attend free meetings free of charge, at the discretion of the organiser.

3.4 Guests (friends, visitors etc.) may attend a maximum of three free meetings free of charge without becoming members of the Club.

3.5 Partners and guests may be asked to pay an additional fee to attend any meetings and events for which members are charged.

3.6 There shall be no smoking at any meetings or events organised by the Club unless the event is specifically advertised in advance in the newsletter as one at which smoking will be permitted.

  1. The Committee
4.1 The Committee will normally meet at least once a month, except in August, to conduct its business.

4.2 Committee members with young children may claim babysitting expenses for their attendance at Committee meetings.

4.3 Retiring Committee members will be thanked with the gift of a shopping voucher to the value of the annual membership fee for each year of their service on the committee.

4.4 Committee members who leave the Committee will not be eligible for re-election to the Committee until a period equal to their period of service on the Committee has elapsed.

4.5 If the Committee decides that one of its members should be removed from office, that member will not be eligible to attend any Committee meetings from the moment of the vote to exclude her until the final decision to appoint or dismiss that member from the Committee is taken by a General Meeting.

  1. Miscellaneous
