We have regular Parents and Children’s Groups, (Please click the link for more information) Bridge, Book Lending and Book/Film Critics Groups, Speaker's Corner, Needle and Thread, a newly re- formed Gardening Group and a Women’s Discussion Group. Sporting Activities take place in the form of Tennis, which is enjoyed by many and a Mini-gym, which is free for BLC Members
But these are only some of the activities run by the Club via our members, all of which meet on a weekly/monthly basis. There has been in the past painting and other craft groups, although this is now taking off again in the form of a card making group and scrapbooking evenings.
We also have a Services and Resources helpline and contacts for other support groups including Breast Cancer Support, Luxembourg School Support Group and many others.
Additionally, our social activities cover a vast range of events which are organised both on a Club and BLC Area basis. The latter enables women to meet others who live nearby, although even if you do not live nearby the event, you are always welcome!
Regular social activities include coffee mornings, pot luck lunches, B.B.Q.’s, and evenings out to restaurants and the cinema.
Larger events, where partners are welcomed, include bowling, an annual quiz evening, dinner/dance/disco events and in the past there has been organised trips to outlying areas such as Heidelberg, Nancy and Bruges, and more recently Strasbourg to visit a divine chocolate factory and museum. Annually we hold a large Christmas Event, namely a Christmas lunch at a hotel for our members, together with children’s parties at Carnival, Easter, Halloween and Christmas.
On a monthly basis, either speakers are invited to give talks on a wide range of subjects such as, for example, buying or renovating property in Luxembourg, organic farming/produce in Luxembourg, or guided tours of art galleries and places of historic interest and/or beauty are organised.
An annual "Car Boot Sale" is held every year on the Glacis Car Park in Limpertsberg and this has, over the years, grown to be tremendously popular. All proceeds go to charity and since 1993 the Club has donated more than € 21.000 (around 850,000 LUF to those who prefer to look at it in "old" money) to the "Office Sociale" in Luxembourg City.
Every couple of months there is a Newcomers Event in order to enable our new members to meet other new members, as well as some of the area reps to exchange information and ideas and begin to formulate friendships and support networks.
Every month, all members receive a newsletter packed with information about the Club’s activities for that month, together with information about the current activities of link organisations and useful telephone numbers.
The BLC also supports and provides a platform for anyone who is a member who would like to start a group or activity that interests them and is not currently available in the club. So if you have a special interest and would like to meet like-minded ladies, then this is a good place to start!
